The Long Barn was designed as a three-household, four-generation family home, built to robust Passivhaus Standards.

It was completed in 2016, following detailed design, specification and project management by Sustain-by-Design, and forms our main office

The design approach involved erecting an independent internal timber frame, highly-insulated both within the frame and on its external face.

SIPS panels were employed to form the roof deck, and the floor slab was heavily insulated beneath.

Underfloor heating and MVHR are complemented by good airtightness with triple-glazed and sealed joinery

The build took 12 months, and was delivered on a tight budget
